Yesterday I was introduced to the writings of Rebecca Solnit. Her words about hope struck a chord.
Solnit describes hope as not just wishful thinking but as the belief that change is possible when we take action.
Her perspective reminded me so much of the work I do as a money coach. Hope and money might seem like strange bedfellows, but they’re deeply connected.

Many of us feel overwhelmed by our finances. Whether it’s debt, unexpected expenses, or the feeling that there’s never enough to go around, it’s easy to fall into despair.
But here’s what I’ve learned—and what Solnit’s work reminded me of—money is not destiny. It’s a tool. And just like hope, it’s something we can reshape with intention and action.
Here are three lessons about hope and money that I want to share with you:
- Hope fuels resilience: No matter where you are right now, you can take steps toward financial health. Even small changes, like setting aside $20 a week, can spark a sense of progress and control.
- Money is not the full story: Your worth isn’t tied to the size of your bank account. Hope invites us to see beyond the numbers, to dream of a life where money is a resource that supports our goals, not a source of stress.
- Community builds financial hope: Just as Solnit writes about the power of solidarity in creating change, I’ve seen how having the right support makes all the difference. Whether it’s a partner, a coach, or a trusted friend, sharing the journey can lighten the load.
The most practical expression of hope in your finances? A spending plan.
Not a restrictive budget that leaves you feeling deprived, but a plan that gives every dollar a purpose—and aligns with your dreams.
Creating a spending plan isn’t about limitations; it’s about empowerment. It shows you what’s possible and helps you take that first step toward financial ease.
Take Action Today If you’ve been feeling stuck, I’m here to help you build a spending plan that reflects your values and gives you hope for the future.
Let’s work together to turn financial stress into financial confidence.
